Well I made it back from Cancun Mexico last night. Was not sure I would as we left late from Cancun and I barely made my connection in Houston. I literally got on as they were closing the door but my bags did not make it :( The trip itself was simply AMAZING!! From the people I went with to the people I met in Cancun, it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Up to this point always said Gibraltar was my favorite place that I had visited but it is now Cancun for so many different reasons. I did the whole inclusive hotel part but also ventured into the real Cancun a bit on three different occasions which is a completely different experience. I have been learning Spanish for the last few months so I was able to get by but I also made a wonderful friend that became my own tutor and showed me a bit of the place. The nightlife there was crazy but the best place I went to was COCO BONGO a MUST if you ever go to Cancun. It was like all the vegas shows rolled into one with free booze (well cost 50 to get it but worth every dime) in fact I went twice it was so good with the second show being a bit different then the day before. I went with Chris White's family, Robert Heckman's family, Joe Custer and his special friend Nina ;) We had a blast and everyday we were saying "this is the real paradise" We stayed at the Crown Paradise Cancun which greets you with every room seeing the light blue ocean and white sand beaches. Every interaction I had with the staff was very friendly and helpful...I even became friends with a few people that I am sure I will see in the future as a result of this trip. The hotel was surprisingly loaded with people from the UK and Scotland seem to send the most. I managed a little practice when I was there but not what I had hoped for but what can you do when you go out all night just to sit on the beach to see the sun rise in a tropical paradise? We did go deep sea fishing which, once again, was a first for me! Chris caught the heaviest fish, a Grouper, Rob caught a huge Baraccuda (almost 5 ft long with huge teeth) Joe got the most expensive fish as he caught a rare White Marlin close enough to 7ft long to call it that and had a amazing fight that he will never forget. It jumped out of the water several times and danced around with it's long sword nose out of the water...then he decided to get it mount which cost 1300US Dollars!!!! One expensive fish! I had caught the first fish which was a yellow finned Tuna which we kept to eat and the hotel chef prepared it for us. We start with fresh sushi from it that literally melted in your mouth then had seared steaks that tasted more like beef. It was by far the best meal of our trip :) We played in the warm ocean that must be at least 86F or 30C as you just walk in and never want to leave. Our weather was really good the whole time but the humidity was something I was just not used to living in the desert but it added to the effect. If something got wet? It stayed wet for days LOL. I have always said (without even ever gone there) that my goal was to retire in Mexico and now? I know I want to and will make it happen. I truely love the place and the people... it was hard to leave. It was a great escape from all the stuff I had been dealing with -a much needed break. The best things I learned was a attitude shared by my friend there "Life is life, you live it for today as you can not make the future happen. What will be will be, only time will say" It sounds even better in spanish :) I admire the way of life that is so relaxed and they just do what needs to be done. So I am home for today then back at work tomorrow for a few hours as I leave very early to make the draw up in Las Vegas Saturday am. I had hoped to get more work in for this PDC event but to be honest? I am so pleased with my trip I am sure I will find a way to be lucky in Las Vegas ;) Having a good showing this next week could send me back to the World Championships at Christmas so I should be off to practice a bit....so much to do and so little time ;) Viva Mexio and Viva Las Vegas |
