Kyoto Japan

Somehow Phoenix's Vendor and/or NDA entered all the Master's players from here into the B Flight of the 01 singles but one guy.  Contary to what some have said out there, I do not enter the level the level is set by NDA.... you just sign up as a Master and every time most of all Phoenix Master's are in the A Flight of the 01....well this year we weren't so I at first thought it must just be a random thing until I got a ton of grief about it.... Some less then knowledged people out in the internet stated I must have "cheated" and sandbagged my stats(Sandbagging is cheating and I wrote a article about it not very long ago...) to be in that division where in fact what happened is we play double in/double out league here in Phoenix versus the rest of the country that plays straight in straight out so our stats are naturally a bit lower.  Normally they do a adjustment hence most Phx players are in the A bracket. I carry the highest stats locally and so if I "Cheated" then our whole system cheats...and that doesn't happen..... Anyways enough about that but I was hurt by some comments as they just were not fair nor accurate.  In the endWell it was a super busy ten days last week that ended with a quick trip to Kyoto Japan,  When I say quick I mean I spent more time traveling there then I actually spent time there!  In all, I spent 52 hrs traveling and was there only 36 hrs!! Crazy I know but it was a great place to see with a big payday if you win.  I had gone there for the D-Crown event and it was a bit of a adventure....

I had to fly into Osaka Japan, then catch a 75 min train to Kyoto station ending with me trying to figure out how to get to my hotel.  Now I could have attempted to grab a cab but the issue there is I would have needed the info for my hotel in Japanese as there is very little English there, only about 1% I am told understands English.  This I found out on my first time and to be honest was a bit surprising as I assumed they would speak loads of English.  I been to many countries around the world but Japan is definitely the most challenging due to the language barrier.

So arrive off the train....I did the task that was at hand and by no means was the level of play low as they are Master players.
Now I head to Kyoto in a few hours and it will be a bit of a adventure as I have to find my way to Kyoto from Osaka on my own and how to get to the venue.  It will be a quick trip as I arrive Saturday afternoon, play Sunday and head home Monday.  There is not much English over there so trying to figure the best ways before I get there.

It is exciting to go back as I am playing well and really enjoy the format over there as it is longer games and split bull.  Takes a good game to do well and now that I experienced the format once I have a better idea what I am in for.

So time for a bit of rest as been a long few days and no rest in the near future.....but want to end with CONGRATS to both TEAM USA Men's and Women's Team for winning the Internation Team events!!!

Anyways enough about that but I was hurt by some comments as they just were not fair nor accurate.  In the endWell it was a super busy ten days last week that ended with a quick trip to Kyoto Japan,  When I say quick I mean I spent more time traveling there thWith my map in hand and it does not look like it is that far away... maybe a mile basically straight north and there appears to be a subway stop by there so easy enough?  Nope because the ticket machine was all in Japanese and I did not know how to work it (ended up finding out later that there is a button you push for english) but even if I had I did not know what line to get on to get me to the hotel.  So I head back up stairs and there is a bus station... same issue how do I get on a bus that goes where I need to go?  So off I go deciding I may as well make it a true adventure by walking.

So I do have my trusty Mapquest map so it can't be that bad right?  LOL WRONG since once again the address is in English and all the signs are in Japanese.  Did I mention they do not list numbers in English either?  Well I wander off and find a cool Shrine so I stop to have a look around so I am thinking this was a good call, also it is only like a mile away.  Well after about 45 mins I figure I am close so I divert off the main road hoping to stumble into the place, well I did stuble into something...darkness.  I eventually did find a hotel that had a English speaker and they gave me a real map showing where I needed to go so I finally made it.  I had chose my hotel as it "appeared" they spoke English but nope I was wrong once again LOL.  Luckily I had pre-booked thru a web site so we managed to get it squared away.  I arrived the night before the event so I quickly changed and began my search for a place to go throw a bit.....

Thanks to the internet I found a place called the BEE that was not too far away.  This time I pre-mapped it into my phone and found a bus that took me very close so I was on a roll.  I actually walked in and I know two of the players in there so it made it all just a bit better.  Dart bars in Asia are kind of cool because people just go there and play games..no Fri/Sat events just fun.  They have staff members that help you set-up the machines and even will give dart lessons from official "dart instructors"- we could use a few of these in the USA ;) kidding....well sort of :)

So I get a good sleep and feel really good about the event, I am staying close to the event and did have this address in Japanese for the cab at least.  I had warmed up in my room and arrived to the venue 45 mins before the start so all was good.  I go 4-0 in my round robin section and have a good control of my game so I figure my day looks great!!!  Well until I walk to the board for my knock-out match.... and who is standing there?  My Asian Kryptonite  Park!!!  Now we all have a guy that for some reason you just do not throw well on and this is my guy.  He is a great player but I can not for the life of me understand how it is when I play him I start thinking a 3 mark will work LOL.  So needless to say my day ended there.  So anti-clamtic to the start of my day and I was seriously disappointed in myself, I do not mind it when I goes up there and out shoots me I just hate throwing like crap...if I win or lose I HATE it!!

The upside was I did get to see a bunch of people I have met over the years, got a bunch of my new SCORPION flights from FIT FLIGHT in the new slim style which look amazing and got to wander around the city after losing to see the sights.  The blossoms were at the tail end of it but the trees looked amazing and I guess people come from all over to see the shrines at this time of year because of this.

I am taking a week or so off as my elbow really took a kicking from all the darts at NDA and then Japan so this week I am headed to southern California to compete in Cowboy Mounted Shooting.  I just love it as it is so much fun and any day I can spend with the horses is a great one.  Come Monday I will be back on the board and have decided to once again change my routine, it has taken me this far but if you want to keep moving forward you need to mix it up to go to another level.  So talk soon... oh ya there is new videos up and I should have a few from the different board manufactures soon too.n I actually spent time there!  In all, I spent 52 hrs traveling and was there only 36 hrs!!
