Philippine Open...

Well so many cool experiences thus far on my trip but will just give a quick update for now....

The Manny Pacquaio Philippine Open was well attended by many world ranked players(WDF) and a huge number of the extremely talented Philippine players.  The first event was the Pro-Am draw doubles Friday which saw 394 players sign-up!!!!!  The event was a bit late even for Philippine standards ;) and began 5 hrs late due to the heavy rain we saw in Manila Friday.  They surprised and honored me by asking if I would read the Players Oath so I had to say yes :)  After 11 hrs of practicing and playing my day came crashing to a end in the semi finals.  My partner Leo Buizon and myself had a good run with a few ups and down but the tank was empty after a long day...plus it took me a 26hr travel day just to get there.

The first singles saw 248 players I believe and was full of talent from all over the world chasing the $140,000 Peso first prize. I went out in the round of 32 to WDF Aussie #1 player Rob Modra, a great player and even nicer guy.  The winner in the end was Philippines own Lourence Ilagan, if you don't know Lourence by now then you just haven't been paying attention.  He has played in both the PDC World Championship and had a run to the semi-final of the World Masters not to mention been tearing up the pro soft tip circuit for years.  He also came back the next day to win the other WDF singles to cap off a double win pocketing 280,000 pesos after the two events and he is off with me to the WORLD Finals this weekend in Hong Kong.
I am writing this sitting on the beach in sunny Subic Bay, a resort area a few hours out of Manila taking a little working holiday as I prepare for this weekend's big final.  The winner will get $1,000,000 Kong Kong dollars...about $129,000 US dollars.  I love my trip to the Philippines and have so many cool things to share but will wait for a few days to share.  I am super glad I came to the Philippines and have met so many terrific people.

Stay tuned...time to go practice...it's a good thing I have my own board with me as most of the bars here are all open air bars...you get a lot of wind drift LOL
